Bike Racing in India


Racing on bikes is a specialized sport. Alisha Abdullah is the only women racer in India on bikes. She is 17 year old and rides a 115 cc four stroke engine. She has finished races in the UCAL Rolon Racing championship in Coimbatore and Chennai.

One company that is truly dedicated to racing is the TVS company. The efforts to produce sports bikes for racing is teamed with participation in major racing championships. Two bikes are new models and the other is worked on an upgrade. The TVS company’s passion for bike racing began in 1987. The company also launched the first 100 cc motorbike in an attempt to kick start racing in India. The launch of 150 cc Fiero was tested on the dirt tracks or Pune’s motor cross.

The FMSCI – The Federation of Motor Sports club of India has laid several rules and details of racing licenses and fees are levied as per category The federation was founded in 1971. The association is recognized by the Indian Government and is affiliated to the Asian Motorcycle Union and the Indian Olympic association. The race track at Chennai i.e. the Madras Motors Sports Club has the international standards equipments like the transponder and the automatic start-finish line. Homologation is done with Yamaha Alba, Gladiator Hero Honda Glamour, Hero Honda GlamourSelf, Hero Honda Xtreme, Suzuki Zeus and TVS Apache to name a few.

The Indian National Rally championship is scheduled in 2008. The rounds are scheduled in Coimbatore, Kolkatta, Chennai, Mysore, Mangalore and Bangalore . The two wheelers need to be homologated and four stroke engines. The United India Insurance Company Ltd, has been linked to cover participants in case of accidents

Another famous track is in Chennai, opposite to the Hyundai Factory. This ‘Circuit’ is called the Madras Motor club which is 6 Kilometers in length. The practice session is charged for Rs 200/-
